Graduate students can come to the Nedivi lab through either the Brain and Cognitive Sciences or the Biology graduate programs. Both departments will support all graduate students in good standing for their entire time of study at MIT, regardless of citizenship. Funding packages provide a twelve-month stipend, tuition, and individual health insurance.
The Research Scholars Program in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) is a prestigious two-year funded non-degree post-baccalaureate program for outstanding recent college graduates who plan to pursue a research career in neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, computational neuroscience or neuroengineering. This program is specifically designed to provide individuals from under-represented minority groups in a STEM field, first-generation college students, individual students with disabilities, from economically disadvantaged backgrounds or veterans, to conduct supervised research in any BCS lab of their choice, the opportunity to take courses at MIT, and immerse themselves in the MIT culture and its academic rigors, while gaining the knowledge and experience necessary to become competitive PhD applicants, and successful graduate students.
We are often seeking UROPs to work with senior graduate students and postdocs. Preferably students that are looking for a long-term lab commitment that will allow them to develop as independent and accomplished researchers. This can be done for credit or hourly funding available through the MIT UROP program. A good start time for UROPs is during IAP or the summer semester. Please write directly to Prof. Nedivi (nedivi@mit.edu) and copy Charles Moss (vmoss@mit.edu). Include CV with your cover letter.
The Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences offers jointly with the Center for Brains, Minds, and Machines and the Department of Biology, a 10-week summer research-intensive training program in all fields of neuroscience to advanced sophomore and junior science majors from other colleges and universities. The summer program is primarily designed to encourage students from under-represented minorities, first-generation college students, and students from economically-disadvantaged backgrounds to attend graduate school and pursue a career in basic research, by providing them the opportunity to conduct supervised research in a top-notch research institution, in a supportive learning environment with plenty of interaction with graduate students and faculty. This summer program provides a unique opportunity for students who do not have access to top-notch research facilities at their own institution to conduct supervised research in state-of-the-art research facilities. Preference will be given to applicants from non-research intensive colleges and universities.
